Games Demand Time

A blog around the topic of computer gaming. In particular: what I'm playing now and my opinion about it.

Subscribing to Lord of the Rings Online

I think I could go on for hours about how much this experience sucked so let’s just pick a few highlights at random.

  • My password couldn’t contain spaces, except I didn’t get a nice error message explaining that a chance to submit a new valid password I just got an error and needed to click on “Forgotten Your Password?” again.
  • There was no clue that the lifetime option is a one-off payment, not a subscription option
  • There are no credit card logos on the one-off payment Click and Buy option
  • You have to sign up to Click and Buy to use a credit card on Codemaster’s site, what the fuck?
  • There is no option to go back one stage in the process, if you realise that what you want is a one-off payment not a subscription then you have to re-enter your license code.

It was genuinely worse than the Warhammer Online process which was my previous benchmark for a web experience designed to drive you as far away from buying and playing a game as possibly without physically threatening you with violence.
